The cost of building just one golf course can be $ 100 million. For this reason, Russia’s first golf course was built in 1988 in the Nakhabino village near Moscow.
In Russia, there are currently several golf courses, the largest of 18 holes belongs to the Moscow club Le Meridien Moscow Country Club. The second city metropolitan golf club has only 9 holes. The third club is located in the Primorsky Territory in the village of Plastun, Terney district. In St. Petersburg there is the fourth functioning Russian golf club – “Dunes”, there are 3 holes. In Europe, golf is most actively developing in the Czech Republic, where about 5 thousand golf clubs play an important role in the development of tourism in this country.
The most prestigious and oldest golf tournament is the British Open, which has been held since 1860. There are three other major tournaments: the American Open, the Masters and the Professional Golfers Association Championships, which are held in the United States.
Various ratings are held in golf, but only a successful performance at these tournaments (athletes call them “majors”) can determine the current position of a golf athlete in the world hierarchy, and also give him the opportunity to become a star and earn a lot of money.
For a long time, the best golfers were the British. But by the second half of the twentieth century in the world, the United States took first place in the number of golf masters. Australia and South Africa are also strong in golf (previously these countries were part of Britain). In the 70s of the last century, the Scandinavian countries, Japan and some European states also announced their world-class golfers. Rapidly developing golf in Asia.
